TECHCONNECT 2004 COMES TO ST. LOUIS SCIENCE CENTER OCTOBER 13-14

EventsAnonymous writes "The TechConnect 2004 Conference, “Innovators Connecting Industries,” will take place at the St. Louis Science Center Wednesday, Oct.13, - Thursday, Oct. 14. This two-day conference offers a rare chance to explore the St. Louis region's unique strengths and business opportunities in the fields of information technology (IT) and biomedical sciences, with a focus on how the two disciplines can work together for economic growth. This will be the third annual TechConnect event, which is organized by Technology Gateway, the Science & Technology Council of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association (RCGA).

“TechConnect 2004 is an extraordinary opportunity to bring the thought leaders in these industries under one roof to learn, network and make connections that can grow businesses and commercialize new technologies,” said Dick Fleming, president and CEO of the St. Louis RCGA. “Bringing together technologists, entrepreneurs, investors and other players in regional technology development who are involved in the future of technology and science will provide an exclusive first look at emerging technologies in the St. Louis region.”

“This year’s TechConnect will include a special focus on food and healthcare,” said Michael Douglas, associate vice chancellor of technology management at Washington University. “The Midwest and St. Louis in particular, is rich in expertise in these fields. Because of our large and growing expertise in plant and molecular biology, we are literally on the verge of a revolution in improving overall human health and helping to solve some of the world’s hunger problems.”

Through collaborative events, networking sessions and keynote presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to establish connections and partnerships. Some of this year’s conference topics include:
· New research and innovations that will change the world
· Therapeutics of the future
· Information security in a threat-filled world: current trends
· Business opportunities that follow breakthrough discovery
· Unstructured data searching, data organization and more
· Business opportunities using IT as a scientific driver
· Research through the eyes of corporate IT
· The syndication of venture capital
· Capitalizing on the movement toward self-managed health and well-being
· The food value chain: market demand driving trait selection and processing
· Business opportunities in designer foods, nutraceuticals and cosmeceuticals

In 2003, thanks in part to the lead sponsorship of Monsanto; the program connected more than 350 professionals from 76 companies. Monsanto will be a lead sponsor again in 2004, joined by Pfizer, who will sponsor the conference’s unique networking software system that will help participants stay connected. To date, supporting sponsors include Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP; Senniger, Powers, Leavitt & Roedel; Tripos, Inc.; MDS Pharma Services; Nidus Center for Scientific Enterprise; Clayco Construction and KMOX 1120 Radio.

There are still opportunities for sponsorship of TechConnect 2004. To learn more about various levels of participation, visit www.techconnectforum.org or call (314) 444-1194.

“Bottom line, TechConnect 2004 will help entrepreneurs, existing companies and the scientific community to work together to create new business ventures,” said Douglas. “And that’s good for the overall economy.”
