ST. LOUIS—Through the Verizon Foundation, Verizon Wireless has awarded a $40,000 grant to the St. Louis Family Justice Center (FJC) to upgrade technology for a survivor intake database and for community outreach that will be used to improve services to survivors of domestic violence.
The funding, announced today, is part of a $100,000 multi-year pledge by Verizon Wireless to the St. Louis FJC to support a new program that coordinates community response and domestic violence.

“We are pleased to continue our financial support of the Family Justice Center and to enhance data and information technology that will enable victims of domestic violence to find safety,” said Mark Crumpton, president–Kansas/Missouri Region for Verizon Wireless.

The Family Justice Center, which opened in 2005, provides a one-stop resource for women and families seeking an escape from domestic violence and abuse. The city of St. Louis was picked by the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Violence Against Women as one of 15 justice centers throughout the country. The FJC, located at the corner of Tucker Blvd. and Olive Street, opened with a $1.4 million grant from the Justice Department.

Mary Burns, director of the Family Violence Council, which operates the FJC, said the survivor intake database will allow the FJC to track the services most frequently used by victims who come to the center and by those calling in for help.

“Verizon Wireless has been one of the strongest supporters of the FJC and many of our partner organizations throughout the St. Louis region,” Burns said. “Its commitment to the cause of preventing domestic violence in St. Louis and across the country is unparalleled.”
